Blanco White
Southbank Centre, Royal Festival Hall, SE1 8XX , [Venue Details]The guise of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Josh Edwards, Blanco White mesmerises with his musical curiosity and reverence for language and the surreal.
Originally from London, Edwards has had a deep admiration for the Spanish speaking world since he was a young child.
Reading Spanish at university, he later lived in Cádiz, Spain, where he studied flamenco guitar under the guidance of Nono García, before travelling to Sucre, Bolivia, to learn the Andean instrument the charango. Both instruments have become centrepieces in his songwriting and otherworldly sound.
The choice of name, Banco White, was inspired by Spanish writer, José María Blanco White, and the identity of the project has continuously evolved since Blanco White’s first releases in 2016.
In 2022, Blanco White supported José González and Gregory Alan Isakov on tours across the UK and Europe, released an intimate EP on healing, Time Can Prove You Wrong and performed at venues like London’s Barbican, LA’s Troubadour and Amsterdam’s Paradiso.
The 2023 record Tarifa was a collaboration with Brazilian co-producer Pilo Adami, showcasing a growing emphasis on rhythm combined with the reverb heavy and mantric sound of earlier records.
